Unbottled – Griesel Extra Brut Rosé
One of my good resolutions for this year was to write more about wine. So, I am starting with sparkling wine. In a manner of speaking from common ground. After my close look at different champagne glasses, I am now presenting another exceptional German sparkling wine to you. Furthermore, the Griesel & Compagnie Extra Brut Rosé Prestige uses pinot noir grapes and the wine definitely is worth taking a closer look!
Yes, sometimes only champagne will do. However, other sparkling wines are as well made as your average bottle of champagne. In this case, I am presenting a sparkling wine to you from a producer that is very dear to us: Griesel & Compagnie from the Hessische Bergstraße share their vineyard area with Schloss Schönberg. They follow the “low intervention” principle and only add as little sulphur as possible. For the Extra Brut Rosé Prestige Griesel uses organic pinot noir grapes, natural first and malolactic fermentation and a twenty-month yeast-rest. Apart from that, 70 % of the wine are barrel aged in new and re-used oak while the remaining 30 % rest in stainless steel tanks. Only a very small Dosage is used.
No strawberry sherbet
While you can find typical red berry notes reminiscent of raspberries in the taste, the very dry complexity of the sparkling wine keeps it from being a one-dimensional berry lemonade. Instead, you can find multiplex layers of apples, red grapes and some yeast notes in the taste. The Griesel Rosé even reminded me a bit of blood oranges. All in all, the wine is very approachable besides its low Dosage and you end up sipping it rather quickly. As you can see from our rating, we enjoyed the Grieel Rosé Prestige very much! – However, we have to admit that we already were big Griesel fans. Apart from that, we found that this wine really shines in the Gabriel universal glass.
