Mars Whisky is produced by the Hombo family in two different distilleries. The first is located in Tsunuki, while the second is the Shinshu Distillery in Miyada. I decided to do things a little differently this year. Since I no longer had any Irish whiskey and I am otherwise a big Ireland fan, I decided to ‘celebrate’ St Patrick’s Day by reviewing a bunch of them. First, I thought I would stick with a ‘classic’ Irish cocktail, the Tipperary.
I did enjoy the Chairman’s Reserve bottlings I tried so far. This is why I was especially curious to try the Master’s Selection limited German release, too. Apart from that, I was inspired by a song to come up with a recipe which highlights the character of the rum.
It has been a while since I sipped Mezcal neat. However, when Kirsch Whisky asked me to join the Amarás tasting, I did not hesitate. Afterall, I took part in a Mezcal Amores tasting over ten years ago in Munich. The brand now is called Amarás due to trademark reasons.
A wine tasting with the crème de la crème of Franconian winemakers and their friends in a castle, within 30 minutes’ travel of our home? We just had to take part in Franken Freunde at the Schlosshotel Hohenstein. In total, there were 56 vineyards and distilleries offering wine and spirits.

I guess I am not the first to throw in a little passion fruit liqueur into a Hurricane cocktail. However, I also took the chance and am presenting the Planteray Mr Fogg Navy Rum to you. This rum just seemed as the perfect fit in this recipe.
