A Sparkling Wine Tasting
It took me more than a month to find the time to write about the latest tasting by our wine regular’s table. We chose the topic of German sparkling wines and of course I mixed in a little surprise.

Just before the Christmas season starts, is the ideal time to discover some new champagne. Paired with the fact that our last champagne tasting was two years ago, I gathered some friends and we tried nine different bottles.
During our second summer vacation this year, we went to the wine and fruit growing region of South Tyrol. Besides vinyards, I also wanted to visit an eau de vie distillery which I had on my list for a long time. Alexander Ortler’s spirits won very high ratings in the Falstaff Spirits Trophy.
Our choice for the first summer vacation as a family fell on Mallorca. Obviously, this meant that I had to visit Stefan Winterling in his new ‘Casa Eva’ distillery. Luckily, he also was happy to have us and invited us to a gin tasting.

Single Malt from Germany already is quite normal, but rye and other US style whiskeys are a bit of a novelty. I already featured the Stork Club rye whiskey here on the blog. However, Florian Faude is new to the game. So, I thought I put both distilleries head to head!
On to the second part of our American whiskey tasting! This time the bourbon and ryes have all more than 55 % ABV. So, it was getting a bit hard to find all the flavours hiding beneath the alcohol that evening. Yet, we managed to come up with some halfway decent tasting notes.
