Dry January 2023 – Autumn Tall Tales
Well, I was quite busy in the last few weeks and creating and writing about cocktails definitely came too short. With a baby on the way and quite the workload on my regular job something just had to be paused. Yet, I still managed to come up with quite the delicious no ABV cocktail.
A good stirred n.a. cocktail
My fellow Drinkstagrammer Goodstirs asked about good non-alcoholic stirred cocktails. This got me thinking and I still had some quite interesting and obviously unusual ingredients standing around. The first idea was to combine a non-alcholic Grenach wine from Joerg Geiger (yes, they just make the best NA stuff!) with meadow orchard apple Verjus. Apart from that, I went with the obvious choice of red apple juice (apple juice with a bit of red carrot juice, but real red apple juice would even be better). The resulting mix was quite tart, that is why I added a healthy splash of simple syrup.
4,5 cl Joerg Geiger Grenache Non-alcoholic Red Wine
4,5 cl Apple Verjus
2,25 cl Simple Syrup
Garnish: Dried Orange Wheel; Song: Beirut – Autumn Tall Tales;
At first you taste the apples with clear notes of apple cider. However, after a while grape notes become noticeable. The syrup balances the drink out quite well. In the aftertaste, and with a bit of dilution orchard fruit notes, reminiscent of full ripe apples develop. All in all, this is a ‘quite’, but complex non-alcoholic cocktail.
