House Godfather – Double Whisky & Amarettos
This is just my version of the classic Godfather cocktail. Not that this cocktail gets requested often. Yet, I thought I come up with the best possible version for my taste. Obviously, this means that the easy drink got a bit more complicated.
I thought it would a good idea to split the base of my House Godfather cocktail between two different whiskies. In this case, I went for the White Heather 15 Years and the Compass Box Synthesis Blended Scotch. Both have a beautiful combination of sherry fruits with peated smoke flavours.
Two Amarettos are better than one
What goes for the whisky in the recipe, also applies to the amaretto. Therefore, I combined the classic Disaronno Amaretto with the newcomer Adriatico. The former delivers the iconic marzipan and bitter almond taste, while the latter adds notes of almonds and certain floral notes.
1,5 cl Compass Box Synthesis Whisky
1,5 cl Disaronno Amaretto
1,5 cl Adriatico Amaretto
Stir – strain – chilled Old-Fashioned glass over ice;
Garnish: Lemon Twist; Song: We Were Promised Jetpacks – This Is My House, This Is My Home;
Yes, the Godfather is a spirit forward and sweet drink. Yet, it is supposed to be this way. With the split base of whisky and amaretto the drink becomes way more complex with notes of almonds and peat smoke shining through. The bitters and the lemon twist make sure that the sweetness does not overwhelm the taste.
