Deep Green – Drilling Pistachio Eau de Vie
I made a drink with homemade pistachio orgeat a while back. When chatting with Torben about it, he suggested a Mai Tai variation with white overproof white rum and pistachio eau de vie.

During our second summer vacation this year, we went to the wine and fruit growing region of South Tyrol. Besides vinyards, I also wanted to visit an eau de vie distillery which I had on my list for a long time. Alexander Ortler’s spirits won very high ratings in the Falstaff Spirits Trophy.
I held back with Negroni variations a bit, because I easily could only mix those. Maybe with the occasional Manhattan version thrown in. Despite, the name which still is kind of the working title, the drink does not taste half as crazy as it sounds.
I already made two variations of the Cameron’s Kick – the Kick Drum Heart and the Punch Through. In the former I combined whisky with a plum eau de vie and in the latter I discovered that Emill whisky from the Scheibel distillery works perfectly with Irish Whiskey.
Finally, a Scotch drink that keeps my tradition of mixing Manhattan variations. In this case, the base spirit comes in the from of the GlenAllachie 12 Years. Let’s just say that for this recipe I combined it with a few compatible ingredients.
One of the last drinks I mixed before Dry January 2024. I always enjoy mixing with Japanese whisky. In this case, I had the chance to create a Rob Roy variation with the Yoichi Single Malt.
For the start of Agave Month 2024, I have something special for you. On one hand, the drink has mezcal as a base and on the other hand a green mandarin eau de vie. On top of that, the recipe is based on the Last Word cocktail.
Probably, this is the last post of 2023. Luckily, I have a new whisky on hand which seems perfect for that occasion. For a drink, I went for a Blood & Sand variation. However, there is no orange juice left in the recipe.
This is it! To the day ten years ago, I started this blog and posted my first cocktail recipe. While I kept doing what I love, nowadays it is about finding the time to shoot the pictures, postproduction, writing and publishing. However, for my anniversary post, I have something special for you!
In this post, I am wrapping up the last two spirits from the last care package from Matthias Sievert and Spiritus Rex. Matthias distils both spirits from rare wild fruits. Which turned out to be the highlight of this years spirits.
