The Next Level of Homemade Drinks
The alphabetical last German wine region in this series is Wuerttemberg which stretches from a part of the Taubertal to the Lake Constance. I chose the typical red grape variety Lemberger which is known as Blaufraenkisch in Austria.
Saxony is another underrated wine region. Fortunately, Jens from Weinkombinat Hugel stocks a range of excellent wines from the area. I chose the Chardonnay from Schuh because it comes from a monopole vineyard.
We arrived at the Saale-Unstruth region. This is only one of two Eastern German wine regions – we will get to the second one in the next article. To be honest, there was actually no question on whether to present a wine from Konni & Evi homepage. Simply put they are the only high quality, […]
The Saar (sub-)region is very close to my heart. I already visited the area twice. This is why I also had to include it in my series on German wine regions. In this case, I chose a Riesling Kabinett from cult winery Hofgut Falkenstein. This special wine was the winner in the Kabinett wine tasting […]
I discovered that I really do enjoy riesling wines from Maximin Gruenhaus a few years back. So, I went for a bottle of Abtsberg Kabinett. When it comes to the (sub-)region Ruwer itself, it gets a bit complicated.
Finally, I am continuing with my German wine region series. Today we visit Rhine Hesse and enjoy a Sylvaner from Wagner Stempel. Some say that Rhine Hesse makes the better Silvaners compared to Franconia. Well, we will see about that and I also have a cliché pairing with asparagus for you.
The Rheingau region accounts for just 3 % of Germany’s total vineyard area. However, it has the highest percentage of Riesling, at around 78%. For this tasting, I have selected a Riesling from Peter Jakob Kühn, a pioneer of biodynamic farming.
The Palatinate the second largest wine region in the country. Obviously, there would have been a number of choices in the Riesling department. Yet, the warmer climate – compared to other German regions, makes it also possible to grow interesting red grapes. So, my choice fell on the Rings The Match 2018.
Yet, this is not your regular Moselle Riesling. Instead it comes from shooting star Julien Renard. Julien has a lot of small plots ammounting to a total of 1,2 ha. This also means that it is quite hard to get. Luckily, I found a bottle. If you are interested in more about Julien you can […]
This article includes a lot of ‘firsts’: The first Riesling in this series. It is also the first time I tried a wine from the Mittelrhine region and the first vintage of the Hainbusch vineyard.
