Hit the Coast – Disaronno Amaretto

Today, April 19th is International Disaronno Day. So I thought, I would present you my version of the Disaronno Fizz. This easy combination of amaretto, lemon juice and soda water is just a perfect sipper for warmer days. Yet, I had to come up with a more elaborate combination without losing the characteristics of the drink…

The original Disaronno Fizz probably is one of the most basic drinks you can mix with the amaretto. – Apart from such two ingredients drinks like the Godfather etc. – However, contrary to those more spirit-forward drinks the Fizz is better suited for summer. In its most basic form the drink just combines Disaronno, lemon juice and soda water. As an inspiration, I also mixed up the original.

Disaronno Fizz:

1,5 cl Lemon Juice
Top off with Goldberg Soda Water
Built – wine glass over ice cubes – top off with soda water; Garnish: Lemon Twist;

As already mentioned, the Disaronno Fizz is very refreshing. Yet, through the pronounced bitter almond notes it also has some complexity. I guess, a good version of the drink needs really cold ice cubes and a very mineral soda water. While the Disaronno usually is quite sweet, the lemon juice and the soda water nicely balance out the drink.

Of course some eau de vie

I guess by now it is almost obvious that my version has to include an eau de vie of some sort. Well, in this case I thought the drink could use some more citrus notes. Therefore, I added the excellent lime eau de vie from Georg Hiebl. Since in my opinion lime juice also works better in this case, I replaced the lemon juice with it. Last but not least, I switched the soda water for the Mediterranean Le Tribute Olive Lemonade.

4,5 cl Disaronno Amaretto
0,75 cl Hiebl Lime Eau de Vie
0,75 cl Lime Juice
Top off with Le Tribute Olive Lemonade
Built – wine glass over a large ice cube – top off with soda water;
Garnish: Lime Twist;
Song: Future Islands – Hit the Coast;

Yes, the drink’s main flavour still is the amaretto’s bitter almond note. Yet, the lime eau de vie also adds some citrus complexity. Apart from that, the olive lemonade is way more subtle than one might think. It mainly tastes of a very well balanced lemonade with certain olive flavours. All in all, I enjoyed the “Hit the Coast” very much and sipping the cocktail immediately puts you on the Mediterranean coast.
