Get Your Love – Razel’s Brownie Rum
I am all for serious cocktails! I enjoy Amaros or hard to get by ingredients no one has ever heard off as much as the next guy. However, sometimes it is also ok to have fun for a change. In this case, the fun part comes in the form of the brownie flavoured Razel’s Rum. On top of that, I created a – should I dare to say – Mai Tai variation using homemade cashew Orgeat.
Perola uses Caribbean rum for their Razel’s Rum Treats. The whole line is inspired by classics from American bakeries. In this case, the girls and guys use natural brownie flavouring and combine them with the rum and some sugar. In the end, the Razel’s Brownie Rum is bottled with 38,1 % ABV.
Heavy dessert flavours
Well, as you might have guessed, the Razel’s tastes like dessert. However, the first whiff reminded me more of coffee and nuts, instead of brownies. Still, the chocolate note becomes noticeable after a short while. I also found some vanilla, cacao and even Stracciatella notes. In the taste, you will notice a dominant sweetness along with the same flavours of the aroma. All in all, the rum brings some fun flavours to the game and even has a hint of salt towards the aftertaste.
Mai Tai variation – really?!
Yes, I wanted to create a brownie flavoured Mai Tai. I know every full-blooded rum aficionado will hate me for it, but basically, I combined the usual makings of a Mai Tai with the Razel’s. Apart from that, I made some cashew Orgeat inspired by Served by Soberon. Basically, you just cook a simple syrup using cashew milk instead of water. On top of that, I added a few drops of rose and orange flower water. To add a bit more rum flavour and punch, I also used the Burke’s Seamaster Rum. This also gave me an excuse to serve the drink in the white Rum Artesenal glass, which was gathering dust for far too long.
3 cl Razel’s Brownie Rum
0,75 cl Ferrand Orange Curaçao
3 cl Lime Juice
1,2 cl Cashew Orgeat
Shake – strain – chilled Double Old-Fashioned glass over ice cubes and cracked ice;
Garnish: Lime Twist – Three Dried Lime Wheels;
Song: Redbone – Come and Get Your Love;
The “Get Your Love” starts off with a clear-cut brownie note. Additionally, you can taste a bit of the Seamaster rum, but it is tamed by the sweet dessert flavours. The orange curaçao and the orgeat also work perfectly with the flavoured rum. The drink is dangerously delicious and goes down way too easy!
