Remixed! – Golden Age

Morten Krag’s Instagram feed is a regular source of inspiration for me. The drinks not only look absolutely amazing, but they also spark my curiosity about how they taste. This is why I needed to feature one of Morten’s drinks in my Remixed! series.

Morten used a barrel aged gin in this one. I did not have the specific one, but went with one of my favourite barrel-aged ones from Silvio Carta. On top of that, I made a cold drip coffee essence from Pachamama coffee. Furthermore, I only had cherry & coffee bitters on hand.

3 cl Old Grifu Barrel Aged Gin
3 cl Sweet Vermouth Mix**
2,5 cl Italian Red Bitter
0,5 cl Cold Drip Coffee Essence
1 Dash Honest John Cherry & Coffee Bitters
Stir – strain – chilled Double Old-Fashioned glass over a large ice cube
Garnish: Orange Twist;
Song: TV on the Radio – Golden Age;

**Mix 50 % Mancino Vermouth Rosso, 40 % Yzaguierre Reserve and 10 % Mancino Chinato.

The drink reminded me of a coffee-laced Negroni variation. I definitely get why Morten used a barrel-aged gin here. Obviously, depending on the coffee you use, the drink can go in very different directions. All in all, this was a very tasty combination and I can only applaud Morten for this creation.
