Eau de Vie Glasses III – Josephinenhütte No. 10

When the Josephinenhütte No. 10 eau de vie glass was released, it sold out within 72 hours. So, I was even happier when a little package showed up at my doorstep. Kurt Joseph Zalto designed the glass for high-quality eau de vies and this is what I tried from it.

The first thing I noticed when unpacking the glass from its box was how tall it is. – The packaging is excellent, by the way. Apart from that, I tried the glass with a wild fruit, an apricot, a pear, a plum as well as a barrel-aged apple eau de vie.

Emphasized fruit notes

As I had already suspected, it is not a ‘neutral’ eau de vie glass. On the contrary, it emphasizes the fruity aromas. This works very well with slightly sealed eau-de-vie. With wild fruit brandies, the fruit also comes through more and the marzipan notes recede a bit. With more intense eau-de-vies, such as high-proof pear or blood orange spirits, the already strong fruitiness is even more intensified.

More barrel flavours

However, the alcohol is also concealed at the same time. Where the glass did not work too well was a barrel-aged apple eau de vie. It only tasted buttery and the fruit was almost completely gone. This could also be due to the fact that the bottle has been open for a while now. However, I also believe that barrel flavours are also emphasized by the shape of the glass. Depending on the type of fruit and the barrel used, this can result in too much. All in all, though, the Josephinenhütte No. 10 is a beautiful glass which works extremely well with delicate and wild fruit eau de vies.

*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. I received the glass for free from Josephinenhütte.
