Negroni Week 2025 – One Red Thread

I just got a hunch that fig might work well paired with the classic Negroni flavours. So, I just had a go at it. I guess it turned out pretty well.
First, I just wanted to add a splash of fig liqueur to the original Negroni recipe. Yet, I just thought ‘What the fig!’ and went all out and threw in a bit of Spiritus Rex fig eau de vie, too.
Balance is key
However, I had to balance the rest of the ingredients. First, I went for a slightly mellower gin from Manuel Engel with a lot of citrus notes. Second, I slightly reduced the Italian bitter liqueur. Last but not least, I chose the Casa Eva vermouth with its slightly spicier flaovur profile.

0,75 cl Spiritus Rex Montana Nera Fig Eau de Vie
1,5 cl Esprite de Figues Liqueur
2,25 cl Italian Bitter
3 cl Casa Eva Sweet Vermouth
Garnish: Orange Twist;

Yes, this is a spirit forward Negroni variation. Yet, the fig aroma blends in beautifully with the rest of the ingredients. The citrus flavours of the gin and the vermouth give the whole drink a Mediterranean vibe. At the same time, the flavours give you the impression of a fleeting summer that is basically over.
