I discovered this cocktail through the Geschichten aus der Geschichte podcast and their episode on Angostura Bitters. The recipe was created by Marshall Davis at the Gallo Pelón Mezcaleria in Raleigh, NC.

Usually I keep good track of the drinks I want to write about. Yet, this one slipped through my net, because I accidentally marked it as already published. Nevertheless, this Sazerac variation uses an interesting PX cask rum as well as a “tailored” bitter blend.
I already reviewed some Chairman’s Reserve Rums on the blog. Therefore, I was quite happy to get the chance to review the vintage version, too. Additionally, the rum seemed perfect for a banana laced Old-Fashioned variation.
Simply put, this is my entry for Equiano Rum’s Interesting Narrative Cocktail Competition. Usually, I create a drink and then search for a fitting song as a title. However, this time I turned things around and created a drink for a specific song. Let us see how things turned out.

Through this year’s Tropical Month my faith in rum was “somewhat” restored. In the months or even years before that, I was a bit bored by all the sweetened rum out there. Sure, there were trends in the opposite direction, but a lot of them tasted similar. Now, I have to admit that the La […]
You probably noticed that this Tropical Month I am very focused on the Jungle Bird cocktail. I guess this is due to the fact that it combines Negroni-notes with tropical flavours. However, today I guess the drink tends more towards a “bittered” Mai Tai. Furthermore, I used a high-ester rum which was forever on my […]
