Obscure Ingredients – Borsci Elisir
The initial idea for this drink came from Amor Y Amargo bartender Bruce Shultz. On our honeymoon in 2022 I asked him what he uses the Borsci Elisir for. He replied that he uses it in Rum Manhattans, so this is what I did, too.
Pyres – Planteray Cut & Dry
Usually, I would stay clear of coconut rum. Yet, when it comes from Ferrand / Planteray you know that has a high quality and you must try it! In this case, I went for the obvious pairing with pineapple.
Down to the River – A Rum Manhattan
Diving deep into the backlog again. This is a Manhattan / Rum Manhattan hybrid, I came up with in the Christmas season 2022. Just in the spirit of that season, I added a healthy das of spices.
Tropical Month ’24 – Three Dots and a Dash
Let us end Tropical Month 2024 with a rather unknown tropical classic. Donn the Beachcomber created this drink which is named after the morse code for the letter ‘V’. This variation from Martin Cate of Smuggler’s Cove uses Vieux Rhum Agricole as a base spirit instead of just ‘gold rum’.
Tropical Month 2024 – Gold Canary
Yes, I know, this article is about another Jungle Bird variation. I just cannot help it, this is where my mind goes when I think about cocktails inspired by bird related songs. Yet, to differentiate the recipe more from my other version this tropical month, I turned this one into a milk punch.
Tropical Month 2024 – Turnbuckle
I have to admit that I regularly neglect to remix interesting recipes. The reason for that is that I have a long backlog of already mixed drinks and an even longer one of recipe ideas. Yet, with the ‘Turnbuckle’ I managed to make the cocktail almost as soon as I discovered the recipe.
Tropical Month 2024 – Big Bird
Tropical Month would not be complete without a Jungle Bird variation. In this case, I added more complexity through pineapple rum as well as a famous German herbal liqueur.

It might be an underrated tropical drink, but the Rum Punch does deserve a closer look. Therefore, I came up with my own version. I actually mixed this drink back in 2022. This means, I am diving deep into the recipe backlog here.
