Hey Rosey – Rooster Rojo Blanco

I do not know how many people have heard of the Rosita cocktail. This rather uncommon tequila cocktail basically is a Perfect Negroni with a combination of dry and sweet vermouth. So, to change that I decided to make a twist on this great drink! On top of that, I am presenting a very good value for money tequila to you today.

Obviously, the Rooster Rojo Blanco also comes from the Fabrica de Tequila Finos S.A. Disitllery. There it is produced by cooking the agaves in an autoclave and distilling the mash on pot-stills. For more information on the tequila check out my article on the Rooster Rojo Reposado. In contrast, the blanco of course is not barrel aged.

Green paprika

The Rooster Rojo Blanco delivers everything you could expect from a tequila. You will find some agave notes, a certain minerality and a hint of clay. On top of that, the tequila also has some umami notes reminding me of green paprika. In conclusion, if you are looking for a good value-for-money tequila you should check this on out.

It‘s not about noodles!

Well, I had this Italian liqueur standing around for quite some time now. So I thought I give the Nardini Tagliatella a try in the Rosita variation. Apart from that, I kept the combination of dry and sweet vermouth combining the Mancino Secco and the Casa Mariol. Since grapefruit bitters work very well with agave spirits, I decided to use them instead of the Angostura Bitters from the original recipe. However, I chose to add two dashes instead of just one.

Hey Rosey:
View in: de en
3 cl Rooster Rojo Blanco Tequila
2,25 cl Nardini Tagiatella Liqueur
2,25 cl Mancino Secco Vermouth
2,25 cl Casa Mariol Vermut Negre
2 Dashes The Bitter Truth Grapefruit Bitters
Stir – strain – chilled Double Old-Fashioned glass over ice cubes;
Garnish: Dried Lemon Wheel glaced with Campari;
Song: The National – Hey Rosey;

The „Hey Rosey“ starts with a clear tequila note. However, when you expect the Campari to hit, you instead get mellow spice notes and hints of sour cherries. The drink is very pleasant and the combination of the two vermouths also works well. However, I can see now why the original recipe uses Reposado tequila, It adds more complexity through its barrel notes. In contrast, the Blanco tequila makes for a very clean and more refreshing drinking experience.
