Unbottled – Delamotte Blanc de Blanc

Sometimes you just crave a glass of champagne. In addition, I wanted to try the Delamotte Blanc de Blanc for a long time now. The fact that the Delamotte champagne is as close as you can get to the very famous, but also very expensive Salon champagne also helped. So, here comes my review of this 100 % Chardonnay champagne from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.

The champagne producer Delamotte works hand in hand with the world-famous house of Salon. They share offices as well as production facilities. Didier Depond runs the two champagne houses. Furthermore, Michel Fauconnet, Chef de Cave at Laurent-Perrier makes the sparkling wines for both. Delamotte owns six hectares of vineyards in Le Mesnil, Oger and Cramant. In years when Salon makes no vintage, the grapes are used for the Delamotte Cuvée and the non-vintage Blanc de Blanc. All wines age in stainless-steel tanks. However, in contrast to Salon, the Delamotte wines pass the malolactic fermentation.

Mellow yellow fruits

I first tried the Delamotte Blanc de Blanc in the Josephinenhütte No. 4 glass. The champagne is well-balanced with some yellow fruit notes and just a slight acidity. However, the mellow taste of the champagne also comes with a noticeable sweetness. On top of that, you can find just a slight acidity with additional mineral notes. When sipping the champagne from my regular champagne glass the Spiegelau Willsberger Collection Champagne Flute, the more delicate notes get lost a bit and a sweet fruitiness takes over. In the end, the Delamotte was the perfect choice for a nice evening with friends and it also made a great French 75 cocktail with Reisetbauer Blue Gin.
