Spirited News 02/2022: Tomatin Marsala
For the second Spirited News in 2022, I am presenting a great Single Malt to you. It comes from a distillery which once was the biggest in Scotland. Apart from that, I also want to talk about a new book from Whisky Store Which.de where you can look up all your favourite Scottish distilleries.
The Tomatin 2008 Limited Edition from Marsala wine casks was distilled on one of twenty-three stills. However, not all of them are still operational. Furthermore, the whisky spends eleven years in Marsala wine casks. In the end, Tomatin bottles the single malt at 46 % ABV without chill-filtration and no-colouring.
A ship-load of red fruits
The Tomatin Limited Edition Marsala starts off with malt notes, which according to the Which.de book is part of the Tomatin distillery character. Yet, after a short while the barrel character shines through with a ton of red fruit notes. They come in the form of red fruit jelly, blackberries and currants. Additionally, I also found some vanilla and some tannins.
All the information on Scottish distilleries
The book from Which.de covers all the Scottish distilleries with information about the distillery style, production and history. Additionally, you get basic information about what Scotch is, how it is produced and what characteristics the different regions have. It really is a great reference book on whisky.
*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. The book was provided by Which.de.
