Isaac – Bib & Tucker Six-Year-Old

For the next drink in this series on American Whiskey cocktails, I made a Boulevardier variation. Additionally, I drew some inspiration from the White Negroni to come up with a kind of combination of the two drinks.

For this series, I based each cocktail on the individual aromas of the whiskies. I cannot exactly tell you why, but the Bib & Tucker Six-year-old felt like it would work well in a White Negroni / Boulevardier variation.

Just a touch of eau de vie

So, I used the gentian liqueur Ciane instead of Campari to give the cocktail a slightly lighter, but also earthy flavour. To keep in line with the Whtie Negroni template, I used medium dry white vermouth from Austria. To round everything off and to incorporate a slightly more fruity component, I added a touch of raspberry eau de vie.

Isaac:

4 cl Bib &Tucker Six-year-old Bourbon
3 cl Ciane
3 cl Gölles Alfred Semi-Dry Vermouth
0,75 cl Etter Raspberry Eau de Vie
Stir – strain – chilled Cocktail glass;
Garnish: Lemon Twist;
Song: Bear’s Den – Isaac;

The “Isaac” starts with notes reminiscent of the Boulevardier. However, a little after that the earthy gentian notes take over. Furthermore, the raspberry eau de vie makes its way to the front of the palate. All in all, the drink is very smooth despite all of its spirits at its base.
