Unbottled – Benoît Lahaye Blanc de Noirs
Apart from the Doctor Cocktail, I also celebrated my PhD with some champagne. I actually bought the bottle a year ago just for this occasion. I highly recommend reserving certain bottles for special events. There just is something deeply satisfying in opening them for those occasions.
I want to concentrate a bit more on wine here. Obviously, I am neither a wine-blogger, nor a sommelier, but it does not hurt to venture out a bit, does it? In this case, I am presenting you the Benoît Lahaye Blanc de Noirs A Bouzy which was a suggestion by Torben from Trinklaune. It is an organic champagne from the Montagne de Reims region.
Dry and fruity
The Benoit Lahaye Blanc de Noirs A Bouzy uses grapes from the “Les Cercets” vineyard in Bouzy. The red grapes are vinified without their skins and 80 % of the wine matures in wood. The wine undergoes the malo-lactate fermentation. Afterwards the champagne spends 24 months on the yeast and is bottled with a Dosage of 5 g / litre.
Apples, Brioche and co.
The Blanc de Noirs shows beautiful notes of apples – green and red ones. Soon afterwards you can taste typical brioche and toast flavours. Next the tastes turns more towards some minerals and a touch of chalk. Just before it takes another turn for more pear and green apple notes. All in all, the wine from Benoît Lahaye delivers a well-balanced drinking experience. The champagne has enough complexity to be interesting, but at the same time does not demand all your attention.
