The Rheingau region accounts for just 3 % of Germany’s total vineyard area. However, it has the highest percentage of Riesling, at around 78%. For this tasting, I have selected a Riesling from Peter Jakob Kühn, a pioneer of biodynamic farming.
As last time was a special edition of Silvaner Sundays , this is this month’s standard edition. There aren’t many high-quality sparkling Silvaners out there. However, the Mays from Retzstadt produce an excellent one.

Apart from the Doctor Cocktail, I also celebrated my PhD with some champagne. I actually bought the bottle a year ago just for this occasion. I highly recommend reserving certain bottles for special events. There just is something deeply satisfying in opening them for those occasions.
While my first love are spirits and cocktails, I am also a bit into wine. So, when I got the chance to try a organic orange wine, I was all for it! The Orange Gold from Gerard Bertrand also sounded like the perfect base for a nice autumnal Spritz!
Another holiday inspiration was an aronia lemonade I discovered in Passau. Luckily, the Heimat Kracherl lemonade is also available in an organic supermarket at home. Therefore, I started wondering which Highball to mix with it. Well, in the end I did not go for gin, but for two eau de vies.
Even when we just talked about apricot eau de vies a few weeks ago, I still am curious to try other apricot spirits. On top of that, there are not a lot of cocktails using apricot eau de vie. So, I take every chance to come up with a new cocktail.
I had my first Limoncello Tonic, at the now defunct Bar Franzotti 2014 in Berlin. Before that, I only associated too much sweetness and too intense lemon flavours with limoncello.
