Unbottled – Pascal Doquet Arpège

It has been a while since I reviewed my last bottle of champagne. In this case, I am presenting the Arpège Blanc the Blanc to you. This bottle comes from the pioneer of organic farming in the Champagne.

Pascal Doquet uses Chardonnay grapes for the Arpège which come from Premier Cru vineyards in Vertus, Villeneuve and Mont Aimé at the Côte des Blancs. The soil is a mix of clay rich and vineyards with silex. A significant portion of the Cuvée comes from a Réserve Perpétuelle and 66 % of the base wine is aged in used oak barrels. The malolactic fermentation takes place and after the second fermentation the champagne stays for 48 months on the yeast.

Focused, but lucious

First, the Aprège starts with clear Blanc de Blanc flavours of white fruits and green apples. The champagne has a pronounced acidity. Yet, the Brioche notes balance the whole drinking experience. Towards the end of the sip you notice some mineral notes with hints of chalk. All in all, this bottle by Pascal Doquet was an excellent sipper and very well received by other tasters.
