Orange Dream – Orange Gold

While my first love are spirits and cocktails, I am also a bit into wine. So, when I got the chance to try a organic orange wine, I was all for it! The Orange Gold from Gerard Bertrand also sounded like the perfect base for a nice autumnal Spritz!

The Orange Gold uses a blend of Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Marsanne, Mauzac and Muscat. During vinification the fermentation takes place on the whole grapes similar to red wine. This adds a golden colour to the wine. The wine has an ABV of 13 %.

Smooth for an orange wine

The Orange Gold starts with a whole basket of fruits ranging from green apples to pears. After a short while you can taste some tannins and spiciness from the grape skins, but all in all the wine stays very approachable for an orange wine. In the end, you also get a touch of vanilla.

Spritz with an organic bitter

Since the Orange Gold is an organic wine, I wanted to pair it with other organic ingredients. Soon, an easy Spritz recipe came to mind and I went for the excellent Mondino Stagionato. Add a splash of soda water to the combination of bitter and wine and there you have your “Orange Dream” drink.

To be honest, there is not much to say about this Spritz variation. You taste the bitter, which is rather mellow, and the wine. The result is a refreshing drink, perfect for summer or autumn, but it also makes a great Aperitif for a spicy meal in winter!
