Remixed! – Black Moon Rising
If one thing is for sure, it is that I do not have enough categories here on the blog. So, I am introducing a new one: Remixed! Basically, I try to focus on drinks from other bartenders and homebartenders here. A thing I far too often neglect. First off, I am featuring the ‘Black Moon Rising’ from Adam of Soundtrackmydrink.
I just love Adams account, he also mixes music and drinks. Besides that, it seems that we have a similar taste not only when it comes to music, but also in the drinks department. In this case, I had to remix his cocktail he named after the Black Puma’s first song on their debut album.
Replacement spirits
Naturally, I had to replace a few ingredients here and there. First off, I did not have the Montelobos Mezcal, but went with the Papadiablo Espadin instead. Maybe the biggest challenge was the Amargo Vallet, but I read somewhere that you can try and replace it with Amaro di Angostura. In the end, I think the drink will taste different, but the basic characteristics stayed the same.
1,5 cl Amaro di Angostura
1,5 cl Averna
1 Dash Licor 43
1 Dash Saline Solution (20 %)
Stir – strain – chilled Cocktail glass;
Garnish: Orange Twist;
Song: Black Pumas – Black Moon Rising;
When sipping the ‘Black Moon Rising’ you are indeed reminded of an Black Manhattan a bit. Yet, the mezcal taskes the drink in a slightly smoky and different direction. At the same time, the two Amaros kind of tame the base spirit a bit. The bitters, the Licor 43 and the salt are there, but just add complexity and you will not notice them individually. This is a great drink and I definitely will revisit it!
