Unbottled – Zehnthof Luckert Weissburgunder

Up until now, I enjoyed every wine I tried from Zehnthof Luckert very much. This also was the case with this ‘Erste Lage’ pinot blanc. Apart from being organically cultivated the grapes also come from an old style vineyard.

The pinot blanc grapes grow in a part of the Berg vineyard with terraces. This means that it was not consolidated. Shell limestone makes up the stony and corse soil. After a selective manual harvest, the Luckerts ferment the must spontaneously in large oak barrels made from Spessart oak. It undergoes malolactic fermentation. Afterwards, the wine matures on the lees and is bottled unfiltered.

Yellow fruits and minerals

I probably, should not even write about this wine. Every vintage sells out pretty fast. Yet, the wine just tastes too good not to write about it. In the nose, I found yellow fruits along with green apples and some overripe fruits. On the palate, the Weissburgunder tastes similar with a combination of apples, pears and citrus flavours. This definitely is my favourite Franconian pinot blanc! I tried the wine from a Lobmeyr Ballerina Burgundy Glass. This glass worked extremely well with the Luckert pinot blanc. It gave the wine a slightly broader mouthfeel.
