One Bottle One Drink – Bitters & Absolut

No, this drink does not contain vodka. In fact, it does not even contain a cocktail bitter. Instead, it shows how far a relatively simple combination can go. In this case, I built the whole drink around gentian liqueur as a base and topped it off with soda water.
Yet, to make things a bit more interesting, I also included a barspoon of Spiritus Rex Martini Gentiana eau de vie in this highball. If you feel that your gentian liqueur is bitter enough, you might as well skip it. Apart from that, I threw in six drops of saline solution and a barspoon of simple syrup. The latter is also optional depending on the sweetness of your liqueur.

6 Drops Saline Solution (20 %)
1 Bsp Simple Syrup (2:1)
Top off with Soda Water
Built – chilled Highball glass over ice cubes – top off;
Garnish: Rosemary Sprig;
Song: The National – Bitters & Absolut;
Actually, I was surprised how tasty this ‘easy’ combination was. The soda water excellently mellows down the bitterness but leaves enough to cleanse your palate. The eau de vie adds a bit more depth as well as the slightest hint of apples. Finally, the saline solution also adds to the complexity.
