Negroni Week 2025 – A Negroni

Since I discovered that Negroni Week 2025 has just started and my calendar was wrong. Luckily, I had a basic Negroni recipe in the backlog. Apart from that, it gives me the chance to reminisce a bit about Negroni variations.
The Negroni probably is my most riffed on cocktail. However, I also like to change the standard recipe in favour of the gin. On top of that, a little bit of Amaro like Ramazotti or Averna goes also a long way. Last but not least, a few drops of saline solution enhances the flavour a lot.
More variations
Apart from that, a few splashes of eau de vie also work winders in the Negroni. Especially, citrus eau de vies work well here. When you want to take it further, you obviously can use the White Negroni as a starting point. There I like to go with a more natural gentian liqueur instead of Suze. If the spirit then lacks a bit of bitterness and depth, you can add a barspoon of gentian eau de vie.
Easy does it
Yet, sometimes you just want to stick with the original. Unusual for me, I opted for the equal parts version here. Nevertheless, I used 50 % ABV Beefeater Crown Jewel gin. For the sweet vermouth I used my standard sweet vermouth blend. Sometimes, a simple drink is all that it is needed!

3 cl Italian Bitter
3 cl Sweet Vermouth Mix
Garnish: Orange Twist;
Song: Mt. Joy – Orange Blood;
