Dry January – Portraits

You can say and think about Dry January what you like. At least for me, it is a welcome break from alcohol. Do not get me wrong, I am all for reducing your intake over the whole year. Alcohol should always be enjoyed in moderation. Nevertheless, here is a new non-alcoholic highball I am quite pleased with.

Refreshing highball

First off, I turned left-over champagne from New Year’s Eve into a syrup. Next, I knew that I wanted to work with a spice or herbal tea. I settled for the Heidi’s Delight from Samova, a mint forward blend including edible blossoms. Instead of lemon juice, I used Verjus from Tement. To round everything off, I added a bit of saline solution, too.

6 cl Samova Heidi’s Delight Herbal Tea
4,5 cl Tement Verjus
2,25 cl Champagne Syrup
2 Dashes Saline Solution
Top off with Soda Water
Shake – strain – chilled Highball glass – top off;
Garnish: Cucumber Slice;
Song: Maribou State – Rituals;

Funnily enough, the “Portraits” started off tasting of freshly pressed apple juice. Yet, after a while the wine-like notes from the syrup and Verjus emerged. In the end, the drink also showed some herbal lemonade characteristics. The cucumber slice also nicely contrasted the over flavours without overpowering the taste. All in all, this was quite the refresher!
