Dry January – Cherry Picking

At the last minute I changed the recipe I had written down. Basically, I built this alcohol free drink around the sour cherry syrup. Yet, I threw out the lemon juice.
Instead, I used apple juice and a small amount of apple vinegar. You really have to be cautious with vinegar in cocktails and use a high quality one. Additionally, to boost the complexity I added a bit of honey mix. Apart from that, I recently discovered that non-alcoholic cocktails benefit from a bit of umami even more than the ones containing alcohol do. This is why I added two pinches of freshly grated black pepper.
2 Bsp. Organic Apple Vinegar
2,25 cl d’Arbo Sourcherry Syrup
0,75 cl Honey Mix
Top off with Soda Water
Shake – double strain – chilled Highball glass over ice cubes – top off;
Garnish: Dried Strawberry Slices;
Song: Absynthe Minded – Cherry Picking;
The “Cherry Picking” starts with a beautiful combination of cherry and apple flavours. Next, the vinegar as well as the honey become noticeable. Towards the end the black pepper shines through a bit. All in all, the cocktail is tasty with enough complexity.
