Be Nobody – Niemand Dry Gin

The Niemand Gin’s rose bottle already caught my eye a few years ago. However, I never got around to try it until now. So, to change that we are taking a closer look at the sandalwood forward gin today. Besides the obligatory Gin & Tonic, I had the feeling that the gin would be great in a White Negroni variation. Let us see if I was right!

The Niemand Gin was created in 2015 by two friends who wanted their own gin. They already had some experience with botanicals, because they also sell a set to spice up your Gin & Tonics. They use ten botanicals for the Niemand gin. The lead botanicals are lavender, rosemary and sandalwood, but the recipe also includes apples, cinnamon, coriander seeds, ginger, juniper, pine nuts and vanilla. After distillation the gin is diluted to an ABV of 46 %.

Woody juniper notes

Well, yes you can really taste the sandal wood in the Niemand Gin. However, the notes are very well integrated and accompanied by a fair amount of juniper. Apart from that you will also find some herbal notes with a noticeable lavender note. On top of that, the 46 % ABV result in some menthol notes. Yet, I like it when the gin is not too smooth when sipping it neat, because then it can stand up to other ingredients in cocktails. This also meant, that the Niemand Gin was in need of a stronger tonic water. Therefore, I decided to pair it with the Fever Tree Aromatic Tonic Water which also uses Angostura bark as a botanical.

White Negroni time, again!

In the past few months I somehow was focused on sour style drinks. However, this also means that I neglected White Negronis for quite some time. To change that I came up with a variation using the Niemand Gin. A long time ago, I had a White Negroni variation in Stuttgart with the addition of yellow Chartreuse, so I added a splash here, too. Apart from that, I replaced the white quinquina with rosé vermouth.

Be Nobody:

4,5 cl Niemand Gin
0,75 cl Chartreuse M.O.F.S.
3 cl Ciane Gentian Liqueur
3 cl Rosé Vermouth
Stir – strain – chilled Old-Fashioned glass over ice ball;
Garnish: Lemon Twist;
Song: Sundara Karma – Be Nobody;

The “Be Nobody” starts off like a classic White Negroni. However, after a short while more herbal notes become present. Apart from that, you can also find the typical Niemand botanicals of sage and sandalwood in the sip. The rosé vermouth rounds off the flavour profile and adds structure to the drink. All in all, I enjoyed the almost summery Negroni variation with the Niemand Gin very much.
