Jasmine Negroni – Cold Drip Jasmine Tea Gin

It has been a while since I last infused a base spirit with something. However, when I discovered a bottled “Jasmine Negroni” I just had to recreate it. So, I bought a high-quality, organic Jasmine tea and cold drip infused Ki No Bi Gin with it. Obviously, you could make any gin cocktail you like with it. Nevertheless, I stayed with the basic Negroni recipe.

First, making a tea infused spirit is fairly easy. After all, the high-proof spirit extracts the flavours from tea similar to hot water. Yet, I chose to use my cold drip coffee maker for this. Basically, I wanted to make a cold drip tea for a while now and with gin instead of water chances of contamination due to the lack of heating are minimal. I used organic, “Dragon Pearls” Jasmine tea from China here. In case of the gin, I went for the standard Ki No Be Gin, because I thought that its classic flavour profile would nicely accompany the Jasmine notes.

Your average Negroni recipe

Contrary to usual, I kept things simple with the Negroni. I stuck with the basic recipe of gin, Campari and sweet vermouth. Yet, as always I used a bit more gin than the other two ingredients. Apart from that, I also used my regular sweet vermouth. In this case, the Casa Mariol Vermut Negre delivers enough flavours to stand up to the bitterness of the Campari.

4 cl Jasmin Tea Infused Ki No Bi Gin*
3 cl Campari 28,5 %
3 cl Casa Mariol Vermut Negre
Stir – strain – chilled Double Old-Fashioned glass over ice cubes;
Garnish: Orange Slice; Song: Jai Paul – Jasmine;

*Add four tsp. Jasmine tea to a cold drip coffee maker – add 200 ml Gin – let slowly drip – bottle in clean bottle;

As expected, the Jasmine notes of the tea work very well in a Negroni. The gin notes pair perfectly well with them. In addition, the bitterness of the Campari adds a bit of contrast. Furthermore, the sweet vermouth adds sweetness and gives the drink a nice backbone. All in all, this is an excellent Negroni variation which does not distract from the original flavours, but rather enhances them with a lovely floral flavours.

*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. The gin was provided by Pernod-Ricard.
