Sighs & Sympathy – Lavendelgut Lavendellikör

There are not a lot of ways to incorporate lavender into a cocktail. Besides using lavender syrup, or a lavender infusion, I went for a lavender liqueur. However, I also had to come up with a suitable drink for it. In the end, I went for a Last Word variation.

The Lavendelgut Bad Waltersdorf, Austria make their lavender liqueur from their own lavender. To be exact, the lavender grows on a field near Sonntagsberg. The lavender is harvest by hand and the liqueur is available in a sweet and a tart version. In the end, the liqueur has an ABV of 32,9 % ABV.

Intense lavender

It does not come as a big surprise that the liqueur has intense lavender notes. However, the “tart”part is also very prominent in the taste. You could almost think of it as a lavender Amaro. Apart from that, you can find ivy, mint and cooling cardamom flavours. All in all, if you take little sips of the liqueur at a time, you can quite enjoy it. Otherwise, the flavours are a bit intense.

Lavender laced Last Word

For a drink, I replaced the Maraschino liqueur in a Last Word with the Lavendelgut liqueur. However, I also adjusted the proportions a bit. Furthermore, I used the overproof blanco tequila from Topanito instead of the regular gin.

3 cl Topanito Blanco 50 %
0,75 cl Lavendelgut Lavender Liqueur
3 cl Chartreuse Verte
3 cl Lime Juice
Shake – strain – chilled Cocktail glass;
Garnish: Lavender;
Song: Muzz – All is Dead to Me;

The Lavender, Tequila Last Word combines a strong tequila flavour with typical Chartreuse notes. The lavender is there, but not overpowering the other ingredients. The sweet and sour notes are quite well-balanced. So, if you are looking for a floral and refreshing alternative for your Last Words, give the lavender liqueur a try.
