Incredible Good Mai Tais – Part 3
I guess the current theme is finishing series I started I while ago and did not finish until now. On to our “Incredibly Good Mai Tais” serial with two new rum combinations. On the one hand, I just combined a Jamaican rum blend with aged Rhum Agricole and on the other hand introduced some white overproof Jamaican rum to the mix. Again, I kept everything else the same as before.
You can find the first two parts of this little series here and here. For the first drink of the two, I had one more combination of Jamaica rum blends with the Clement V.S.O.P to go. Again, the Burke’s Semaster Rum managed to result in a very tasty Mai Tai. However, the combination of the Burke’s with the Navy Island Navy Strength Rum was just slightly better.
1,5 cl Clement V.S.O.P Rhum
0,75 cl Pierre Ferrand Orange Curaçao
1,5 cl Lime Juice
0,75 cl Meneau Orgeat
0,25 cl Homemade Coconut Blossom Syrup
Garnish: Mint Sprig;
More esters, less oak
The second Mai Tai I tried this evening was a mix of Black Tot Rum with the ester-heavy Rum Fire White Overproof Rum. While the ester notes certainly evoked the spirit of a tasty Mai Tai, it lacked a bit of complexity. I guess some barrel aged rum notes were missing here. Nevertheless, it was a refreshing take on the classic Mai Tai.
