A Lick of Paint – Erber Brixxx 43 Gin

Who says that there are too many White Negroni variations out there? For this special drink I added a bit of extra gentian (& apple) eau de vie and lemon eau de vie. In this context, I am also introducing a new gin to you.

This new to me gin comes from Austria, Tyrol to be exact. The Erber Brixxx 43 Gin was gifted to me by a friend and I finally managed to try it. The gin combines juniper, with mountain hay and 24 other botanicals. It is bottled – as the name suggests – at 43 % ABV.

Juniper forward gin

Well, as you might expect, the Erber Erber Brixxx 43 Gin delivers a strong juniper taste. Apart from that, the gin has some spicy notes which complement the juniper quite well. Furthermore, it also develops some floral characteristics which could be attributed to the hay in the botanicals list.

Just your average White Negroni

Basically, I added just a few things to the standard White Negroni template. First, I wanted to include more gentian notes through the Spiritus Rex Gentiana and more lemon notes through the Engel Lemon eau de vie. Apart from that, I only threw in some lime bitters and was good to go.

A Lick of Paint:
View in: de en
3 cl Erber Dry Gin
1 Bsp Spiritus Rex Gentiana Eau de Vie
1 Bsp Engel Lemon Eau de Vie
3 cl Ciane
3 cl Cocchi Americano
2 Dashes Scrappy’s Lime Bitters
Stir – strain – chilled Old-Fashioned glass over ice;
Garnish: Lime Twist;
Song: Frightened Rabbit – A Lick of Paint;

Even though I only used one barspoon of gentian eau de vie, it really shines through. You taste a distinct gentian flavour and a noticeable bitterness. Furthermore, the lemon eau de vie as well as the bitters add some citrus notes which of course go very well with the gin. All in all, I am quite happy with this White Negroni variation.
