Metal Heart – Emill Kraftwerk

I already made two variations of the Cameron’s Kick – the Kick Drum Heart and the Punch Through. In the former I combined whisky with a plum eau de vie and in the latter I discovered that Emill whisky from the Scheibel distillery works perfectly with Irish Whiskey.

Scheibel produces the Emill Kraftwerk whisky in the historical Scheibel Mill. The whisky is distilled twice on copper pot-stills before ageing in four different floors in the mill. The nearby mountain river ‘Acher’ also influences the microclimate. In the end, Scheibel bottle the whisky at an ABV of 58,7 %.

Fruity and malty

The Emill Kraftwerk combines characteristic German whisky notes with spices. Yet, the high-proof version has a distinct vanilla and vanilla pudding flavour. In combination with a certain caramel flavour the whisky almost reminds me of Crème Brûlee. The alcohol is noticeable, but also well integrated.

Still kicking

Since I needed an Irish whiskey for a proper Cameron’s Kick variation, I used the only one I had on hand, the Jameson Crested. Apart from that, I made a homemade Pistachio orgeat. It was a bit labour intensive and you definitely should buy blanched ones. On top of that, I threw in a bit of apricot eau de vie.

Metal Heart:
View in: de en
3 cl Emill Kraftwerk Whisky
3 cl Jameson Crested Irish Whiskey
0,75 cl Scheibel Marille Eau de Vie
2 Dashes Honest John Coffee + Cherry Bitters
1,5 cl Lemon Juice
2,25 cl Homemade Pistachio Orgeat
Shake – chilled cocktail glass;
Garnish: Lemon Twist;
Song: Cat Power – Metal Heart;

At first, the ‘Metal Heart’ really reminds you of the original Cameron’s Kick. Yet, the apricot and pistachio notes take the drink in a slightly different direction. Apart from that, the two flavours pair very well with the whiskies. The bitters just add an additional layer of complexity here.

*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. The Emill was provided by Scheibel.
