One Bottle One Drink – Bitter End

Yes, this is another Negroni variation and not necessarily one suited for summer. However, the split base of overproof cognac and overproof calvados was too intriguing to not try it. Obviously, I had to pair those powerful spirits with other strong ingredients.

To balance out the strength of the two overproof spirits, I added very bitter Fernet to the mix alongside the Italian red bitter. However, this meant that I also had to use a stronger vermouth. In this case, I went for the Cocchi Barolo Chinato.

Bitter End:

1,5 cl Daniel Bouju Royal Cognac
1,5 cl Christian Drouin Brut de Fut Calvados
2,25 cl Italian Red Bitter
0,75 cl Fernet del Frate
3 cl Cocchi Barolo Chinato

Garnish: Orange Twist

Yes, this is a powerful cocktail. The combination of calvados and cognac really works well. The Fernet emphasizes the bitterness of the cocktail. Last but not least, the wine flavours from the Barolo Chinato add another layer of complexity. You definitely notice the strength, but it also makes for a hell of a Negroni cocktail.
