Silvaner Sundays – Stefan Vetter Sylvaner Steinterrassen

I thought I revive the Silvaner Sundays category since I am done with the German wine regions and before starting with the Austrian ones next year. In this case, I opened a bottle from Stefan Vetter who is famous for his very distinctive style.
In this case, I had the Sylvaner Steinterrassen Muschelkalk 2020 on hand. After a very early harvest window, the grapes stay some time on their skins before pressing on a traditional basket press. The spontaneous fermentation as well as the ageing take place in oak barrels.
Almost austere

The Sylvaner from Stefan Vetter answers the question, how minimalistic can Franconian silvaner be? There is no typical fruit, a pronounced acidity, green apples as well as apple skin notes. This is rounded off, by a certain salinity. This way the wine really is quite unique and shows the austere end of what silvaner can be.
