The Next Level of Homemade Drinks

Aquavit Cocktails – Wild Wood

I basically, kept some elements of the modern classic Norwegian Wood cocktail from Jeffrey Morgenthaler, but twisted them slightly. Obviously, the resulting drink tastes quite different from the original.

Basically, I combined the Norwegian Wood with some blueberry flavours which always work wonders with aquavit. On top of that, I replaced the Chartreuse with some Cynar. Naturally, those two liqueurs have a completely different flavour profile. To bring in a little bit of apple flavour, I went for the Dashfire Spiced Apple bitters.

Wild Wood:

4,5 cl Linie Aquavit
1,5 cl Lantenhammer Blueberry Liqueur
2,25 cl Sweet Vermouth
0,75 cl Cynar
2 Dashes Dashfire Spiced Apple Bitters
Stir – strain – chilled Cocktail glass;
Garnish: Three Blueberries;
Song: Paul Weller – Wild Wood;

At first you are greeted with the usual caraway flavours in the ‘Wild Wood’. Next, the combination of blueberry and bitter herbal notes shine through. They do remind me a bit of Pasubio which unfortunately I cannot get here in Germany. Towards the end, the drink’s backbone in the form of sweet vermouth and bitters becomes noticeable.
