Mind Over Matter – Yoichi Single Malt
One of the last drinks I mixed before Dry January 2024. I always enjoy mixing with Japanese whisky. In this case, I had the chance to create a Rob Roy variation with the Yoichi Single Malt.

For those hot summer days the obvious choice of base spirit seems to be rum. However, I while ago I came up with a Mai Tai variation using two different whiskies. While this version might indeed be a bit too much for the really hot days, it turned out delicious nevertheless.
Sometimes you just have to remix drinks you had too long ago. In this case, the Highball might seem a bit boring at first glance. However, the Mizuwari Highball is more than its list of ingredients might suggest. On top of that, this gave me the excuse to present the Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky to […]
Umeshu is the perfect way to resurrect my “unusual ingredients” category. Besides my review, I combined this Ginjo sake-based liqueur with more plum flavours and came up with a Manhattan variation. There is just some magic about adding plum flavours to a Manhattan template!
I really enjoy sake, whether as a drink accompanying sushi, or mixed in Japanese-inspired cocktails. This is why I was very happy to have one a care-package by Akashi-Tai on my friend Serge’s page Hungry Thirsty Bored. It really has been a long time until I got my hands on this special cognac. Mizunara oak cask ageing is en vogue right now. However, only the Maison Tessendier produces Mizunara cask finished cognacs. In this case, they took a cognac from the Borderies region and finished it in Japanese Mizunara casks for half […]
When it comes to gin cocktails, the Last Word is one of my favourites. There just is something deeply intriguing about the flavour combination of Chartreuse and Maraschino. Of course, when I made the jasmine tea infused Ki No Bi Gin, I also had to make a Last Word variation. Let us see how this […]
It has been a while since I last infused a base spirit with something. However, when I discovered a bottled “Jasmine Negroni” I just had to recreate it. So, I bought a high-quality, organic Jasmine tea and cold drip infused Ki No Bi Gin with it. Obviously, you could make any gin cocktail you like […]
The third bottling of gin from the Kyoto Distillery highlights a special botanical also used in the other gins. Obviously, we are talking about green tea. Japanese culture and green tea have a deeply rooted connection and the Ki No Tea reflects that. Of course, this also means that I had to come up with […]
I do like overproof gins. In this case, I will take a closer look at the Japanese Ki No Bi Sei Gin from the Kyoto Distillery. Since the regular strength Ki No Bi Gin already won me over, I was very intrigued by how the Sei would behave in cocktails. To test the gin’s mixability, […]
