Inspiracion – Ramero Rum Blanco

There is a great trend for German distillers to produce their own rum. Yet, who says you have to distil it yourself? The folks behind Heimat Gin decided to use rum distilled in Guyana, for ageing and finishing in Germany. Since I am always looking for great blanco rums, I was eager to try the Ramero Rum in a Daiquiri / Basil Smash combination.

Heimat Gin use rum distilled in Guyana on a column still for their Ramero Rum Blanco aged for six months in 1000 l stoneware vats. Afterwards, they add a small portion of rum distilled on wooden pot-stills aged in local wine casks. The rum is barrel aged with an ABV of 61 % and has a ester level of 5,8 g / hl. In the end, a dosage of 7 g / l is added and the Blanco is bottled with an ABV of 46 %.

White chocolate and hints of esters

The rum has complex white chocolate and cacao notes. Apart from that, you can taste menthol and hot spices. On top of that, you can taste some ester notes and vanilla typical for Guyana rum. Additionally, the aftertaste also is very long. All of this makes the rum perfect for Daiquiris and Mojitos.

A Basil Daiquiri

Obviously, I wanted to mix some kind of a Daiquiri variation with the Ramero Rum. Yet, I also wanted to use the flavour combination with lime and passion fruit. I first thought about using mint in a kind of Richmond Gimlet variation. However, purple basil seemed also like a good flavour pairing with the other ingredients.

Inspiracion:
View in: de en
6 cl Ramero Rum Blanco
3 cl Lime Juice
2,25 cl d’Arbo Passionfruit & Orange Syrup
2 Sprigs Purple Basil
Shake – double strain – chilled Cocktail glass;
Garnish: Basil sprig;
Song: Calexico – Inspiracion;

The “Inspiracion” starts off with a Daiquiri note enhanced with more exotic passion fruit flavours. Furthermore, the basil shines through, but in a more refined way as your regular Gin based Basil Smash. The drink is quite refreshing with the Guyana rum notes shining through nicely. All in all, I enjoyed the drink very much and can imagine it being perfect for hot summer days.

*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. The rum was provided by Heimat Gin.
