One Bottle One Drink – La Boum

I guess the “La Boum” already has become the summer drink 2021 here in Germany. At least a lot of fellow Drinkstagrammers have already posted about this refreshing combination of Cachaça and watermelon. So, I thought also would give the drink a go. However, I needed to make a few adjustments, because I did not have the exact spirits on hand.

Swetlana Holz named the “La Boum” after the 1980 movie. The goal was to create a refreshing drink for the Le Lion’s summer menu. Therefore, Swetlana combined Cachaça and allspice bitters with watermelon juice. Apart from that, the drink is based on a regular sour recipe. In the original, the bar Le Lion uses Yaguara Cachaca and Dale De Groff’s Pimento Bitters. Yet, I did not have either of them. So, I simply used the Espirito de Minas Cachaça. Furthermore, I replaced the bitters with the Seventh Sense Tiki Bitters.

La Boum:

5 cl Espirito de Minas Cachaça
1 Dash Revolte Tiki Bitters
5 cl Water Melon Juice
3 cl Lemon Juice
2 cl Simple Syrup
Shake with crushed ice – fill – Double Old-Fashioned glass;
Garnish: Mint Sprig;

The “La Boum” starts off with flavours reminding me of a good Caipirinha. Straight after that, the watermelon becomes noticeable and takes the drink in a more “exotic” direction. Yet, the melon notes never overwhelm the taste of the cocktail. Instead, the drink stays refreshing with a noticeable sweetness. All in all, I can understand while this drink is such a hit and can see myself mixing up a few of them this summer!
