In Degrees – Scheibel Mirabell

Again, I am late with the review of an eau de vie. The Scheibel Distillery from the black forest send me three different eau de vie a few months ago. However, the Mirabelle eau de vie is the only one which I did not present to you until now. To change that I came up with a tropical inspired Mai Tai variation.

The Scheibel Mirabell uses over 7 kg of fruits from the black forest region for each litre of spirit. As per usual with their “Premium” spirits line, Scheibel uses their “Scheibel-AURIA” distillation process over 22-karat gold. In the end, the eau de vie is bottled at 43 % ABV.

Fruity with balanced stone notes

The Scheibel Mirabelle starts with typical perfumed plum notes, followed by almost sweet fruit notes. There is a touch of plum stones in the taste, but it is very well integrated. Additionally, you can find some green notes along with hints of apricot yoghurt. All in all, the Scheibel Mirabell has a great value for money.

A Mai Tai – sort of

For a drink using the Scheibel Mirabell, I was inspired by another drink using a Scheibel liqueur by my good friend Sepo. So, I decided to come up with a Mai Tai style cocktail using the white Jamaican overproof rum and of course the Mirabelle eau de vie. To round everything off, I replaced the Curacao with pink grapefruit liqueur and added a barspoon of overproof cherry eau de vie also from Scheibel.

In Degrees:
View in: de en
3 cl Wray & Nephew White Overproof
2,25 cl Scheibel Mirabell Eau de Vie
1,5 cl Giffard Pampelmouse Liqueur
3 cl Lime Juice
1,5 cl Meneau Orgeat
Float 1 Bsp. Scheibel Alte Zeit Acher Kirsch Eau de Vie
Shake over ice – fill – tropical glass;
Garnish: Lime Twist – Dried Lemon Wheel – Dried Orange Wheel;
Song: Foals – In Degrees;

When sipping the “In Degrees”, you first think of a regular Mai Tai. However, the fruity components and the lack of barrel-.aged notes quickly take the drink in another direction. You get a beautiful combination of ester notes on the one hand from the Jamaica rum and on the other hand from the Mirabelle / cherry eau de vie. Actually, you have to be careful, because the drink really goes down easy, but still packs a punch!

*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. The eau de vie was provided by Scheibel.
