Agave Month 2024 – Kisses Over Babylon
This is the last drink of Agave Month 2024. Posted just in time for the end of March, due to ongoing move-related chaos here at the AB-headquarters. Yet, this Mezcal Margarita variation is too good not to share with you.
Due to the move, I am also way behind on spirits I want to present to you. One of them is the second herbal liqueur from Weyermann. In this case, they combined a base of herbs, roots and spices with a bit of their caramel malt as well as some orange flavour. In the end, the liqueur is bottled at an ABV of 35 %.
Herbs and a lot of oranges
I do like the idea of putting oranges in a herbal liqueur. However, in this case, the result tastes more like an Orange Curaçao with some herbs in it. Do not get me wrong, the liqueur is quite tasty, but I was expecting it to be the other way round. Nevertheless, the flavour profile is ideal for mixing!
Replaced the Curaçao, added some grapefruit
The fact that the Weyermann herbal liqueur has such a pronounced orange flavour gave me the idea of replacing the Curaçao in a Mezcal Margarita with it. On top of that, I had some leftover grapefruit on hand and added a splash of it, too. Since, I am a fan of the Tommy’s Margarita, I also used some agave syrup for balancing out the acidity here.
1,5 cl Weyermann Herbal Liqueur
2,25 cl Lime Juice
2,25 cl Pink Grapefruit Juice
1,5 cl Agave Syrup
Garnish: Lime Twist;
Song: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – Kisses Over Babylon;
The Mezcal clearly dominates the flavour of the ‘Kisses Over Babylon’. However, the drink soon turns towards classic Margarita notes with the orange from the liqueur. Yet, the herbs and the grapefruit take the overall taste in a slightly different direction. If you are into Mezcal drinks, you should really try this one!
*The fact that I received a product reviewed in this article for free, did not – in any way – influence the rating of said product. The liqueur was provided by Weyermann.
