Agave Month 2024 – Wrecking Ball

Well, you could call this a Magarita variation or a Agave White Negroni with lime… Whatever you want to call it. The drink really is delicious and a great addition for Agave Month 2024.

First, I wrote down the recipe ages ago, especially to showcase the Giffard Piment d’Espelette liqueur. The liqueur adds certain spicy notes without brining too much heat to the mix.

Split base and some gentian liqueur

Furthermore, I split the base between mezcal and tequila. On top of that, I also added some gentian liqueur to take the drink in the direction of a White Negroni. To round everything off, I added some smoky and spicy bitters, to further enhance the spiciness of the drink.

Wrecking Ball:
View in: de en
3 cl Bozal Ensemble Mezcal
1,5 cl Arette 101 Tequila
2,25 cl Chartreuse Gentiane Liqueur
1,5 cl Giffard Piment d’Espelett
1 Dash Bitter End Memphis Barbecue Bitters
3 cl Lime Juice
1,5 cl Agave Syrup
Shake – strain – chilled Cocktail glass;
Garnish: A Pinch of Piment Espelette;
Song: Interpol – Wrecking Ball;

First, you get the taste reminiscent of the classic Margarita with a hint of mezcal. Yet, the heat and the bitterness of the two liqueurs come to the front quite quickly. Next, the agave syrup adds to the backbone of the drink. Despite the heat and the smoke, the ‘Wrecking Ball’ is quite balanced and complex.
