Dirty Love – Gin Eva La Mallorquina
Obviously, a great Dirty Martini only needs good gin and vermouth as well as some olive brine. Yet, it is also fun to add a little bit of ‘extra’ to the mix. Especially, if you have the perfect Dirty Martini gin on hand!
I already recently wrote about the Gin Eva La Mallorquina in my article on the Gin Eva distillery visit. Yet, here are again some facts. For the gin Stefan Winterling uses juniper, La Mallorquina olives and coriander. Stefan distils the gin every October and every vintage tastes different.
Juniper & olives
Similar to our gin tasting at Casa Eva, the gin was very smooth. At the beginning I tasted juniper tending towards backing spices. Soon afterwards fruity olive notes took over. Additionally, there were some spicey notes reminding me of coriander. I tend to repeat myself here, but you really can sip this gin neat.
Even more olives!
Basically, what I did was to combine the La Mallorquina gin with Noilly Prat Dry and olive brine. Yet, I also took up the trend of adding a barspoon of simple syrup to the Martini recipe. Apart from that, I enhanced the olive notes with The Bitter Truth’s olive bitters in combination with some orange bitters. Last but not least, I added my five pepper essence, a trick I stole from Adam of Soundtrackmydrink.
2,25 cl Noilly Prat Dry Vermouth
2 Dashes Scrappy’s Seville Orange Bitters
3 Drops Five Pepper Essence**
1 Bsp. Giffard Gomme Syrup
2 Bsp. Olive Brine
Stir – strain – chilled cocktail glass;
Garnish: Three Olives;
Song: Mt. Joy – Dirty Love;
For the highball version I took the above recipe, strained the drink over ice cubes and topped it off with soda water.
Yes, this drink screams umami. Not only because of the salinity of the brine, but also on the account of three different olive flavours and the slight pepper note. The gin and the vermouth go together perfectly and the orange bitters add some nice contrast. To be honest, I enjoyed the highball version even more, but it was a hot day and it was very refreshing!
