Liqourice Whisky Sour

Even before we visited the Stauning distillery, I made a variation of a Whisky Sour with Danish whisky and liquorice syrup. I just had to play on the connection of the Danish liquorice syrup from Bülow and the whisky.

While shopping for liquorice for my best friend, I discovered that Bülow now sells salty liquorice syrup, too. I just had to buy some. It comes in a small plastic bottle and is very concentrated and viscous. You only need to use a small amount to give drinks a powerful liquorice flavour.

Powerful stuff

In this case, I decided to try a variation of the Whisky Sour. As mentioned above, the Stauning Whisky Høst whisky was the obvious choice. However, I split the sweetener between a small amount of liquorice syrup and plain simple syrup. As you can see from the colour, that’s all that’s needed.

Liquorice Whisky Sour:
View in: de en
4.5 cl Stauning Høst Whisky
3 cl Lemon Juice
1,5 cl Simple Syrup
0,5 cl Bülow Syrup Liquid Liquorice
Shake – strain – chilled Old-Fashioned glass over ice cubes;
Garnish: Lemon Twist;
Song: Tame Impala – Loser;

Obviously, you have to like liquorice to enjoy this cocktail. Despite the small amount of syrup, its flavour dominates. The usual flavour profile of a Whisky Sour only comes through with the second sip. However, I did enjoy the drink very much. The syrup also adds a salty quality, which I really enjoyed.
