10th Anniversary – The Other Way

This is it! To the day ten years ago, I started this blog and posted my first cocktail recipe. While I kept doing what I love, nowadays it is about finding the time to shoot the pictures, postproduction, writing and publishing. However, for my anniversary post, I have something special for you!
I always love to combine my travels with distillery visits. This time on our way to Vienna, we visited one of my favourite eau de vie distilleries – Reisetbauer. To make things short, the Reisetbauer distillery is well worth a visit!
I heavily anticipated the arrival of the Ferrand Dry Curacao Yuzu. The regular one already is my go-to orange curacao, especially in Mai Tais. Obviously, I had to try the new one in a twist on that classic cocktail!
I wanted to mix this drink since our US trip last year. It was inspired by the 1919 cocktail created at Drink, Boston. However, I changed a few things and used a great bourbon I brought back from the States as a base spirit.
It is time for Soundtrack my Friend’s Drink again! For Volume 14 Adam collected song suggestions reminding us of our youth and randomly assigned them to another participant. In addition, we should include a childhood snack in the drink or as a garnish. So, I went for a high school party inspired mess of ingredients.
On with Tropical Month 2023, the ‘Devil Like Me’ is a variation of another drink I created in 2017. The ‘Balthazar Impresario’ is a rare tropical cocktail that uses vermouth. On top of that, both drinks show my love for blood oranges.
Usually, I am pretty savvy when it comes to classic cocktails. On top of that, I also know a fair share of obscure ingredients. Ferrand Spirits always sends out great Christmas presents. This year I got a stollen made with their rum. The logical thing to do was to pair it with an Eggnog. So, I based my recipe on the classic one I found at Jeffrey Morgenthaler’s blog and obviously used Plantation Rum in it.
