Dry January – Any Better

When I tried the Mondino Senza in 2021, it won me over completely. Its natural taste combined with organic ingredients is just a perfect non-alcoholic ingredient for Spritzes and cocktails. So, for the Dry January 2022, I thought I come up with a few different recipes featuring it.

A touch of almonds

The first and obvious thing I tried was a non-alcoholic Sour. The Mondino Senza’s fruity notes and dark red colour just seemed perfect for it. However, instead of plain simple syrup, I wanted to add more flavour and I remembered an Army & Navy variation by Empire Brick of Gin. His Imperial Navy, was a combination of gin, Campari, lemon, orgeat and egg white. This is why I added a bit of orgeat, but did not replace all of the sweetener with it. Instead, I went for a nice balance with some simple syrup, too.

Any Better:

7,5 cl Mondino Senza
3 cl Lemon Juice
0,75 cl Orgeat
0,75 cl Simple Syrup
1,5 cl Aqua Faba
Shake – strain – chilled Double Old-Fashioned glass over ice cubes;
Garnish: Lemon Twist;
Song: KYTES – Any Better;

Fruity and foamy

The drink starts off, with a fruity combination of the Senza’s black currant notes and almond flavour from the orgeat. Afterwards, the lemon kicks in and keeps the drink from becoming too sweet. Finally, the Aqua Faba not only adds beautiful foam, but also a great mouthfeel. The drink greatly benefits from the addition of a bit of simple syrup for balance. All in all, the “Any Better” has everything you could wish for in a sour, but without clouding your judgement.
