The B-Sides: A few different recipes
You know how it is, you have great cocktail ideas, but you cannot try them all! At the same time, when you do it happens that you get not to write about them. However, inspired by Torben from Empirebrick of Gin, I decided to publish some of them anyway. (It seems like I was quite in the mood for gin…).
The first one is a simple Gimlet variation with homemade orange cordial. Enhanced by some orange eau de vie from a local producer. You could stir this one up, but I decided to add a splash of lime to adjust the acidity. Therefore, shaking is the better idea here. Obviously, I had to use the orange heavy Satoshi Gin here.
0,75 cl Haas Orange Eau de Vie
1,5 cl Homemade Orange Cordial
1 Dash Lime Juice
Garnish: Lemon Twist;
Song: Adam French – The Rat;
Inspired by tea
For the “Oh Me Oh My“ I was inspired by the Samova Gin Soul tea. The tea was in turn created to work with the Gin Sul Gin, so I used this one as the base spirit. On top of that, I added a bit of cacao eau de vie from the Ascaim Distillery. All in all, I wanted the drink to be a light summer sipper and used a relatively small amount of spirits.
1,5 cl Ascaim Cacao Eau de Vie
3 cl Cold Samova Gin Soul Tea
3 cl Lemon Juice
2,25 cl Simple Syrup
Garnish: Some Gin Soul Tea;
Song: Chet Faker – Oh Me Oh My;
A Fig Gin Fizz
The next drink was inspired by a cocktail from a new bar here in Nuremberg. I still have not been able to visit the Herrengedeck. However, from what I have heard it is a great place to enjoy cocktails. One of their drinks last summer was something with gin and figs. So, I created a recipe from a friend’s description of the drink.
2,25 cl Esprit de Figues Fig Liqueur
3 cl Lemon Juice
1,5 cl Homemade Vanilla Syrup
1,5 cl Aqua Faba
Shake with ice – strain – second cocktail shaker – chilled Highball glass over ice cubes;
Garnish: No Garnish;
Song: Granada – Summerfieber;
An eau de vie blend
What to do when you organized a tasting and you are left with way too many little samples of a spirit? I like to blend them all together and use them for cocktails. In this case I made a blend of apricot and raspberry eau de vies (which did turned out to be more a raspberry eau de vie blend with hints of apricots…). In the end, I threw the cuvée into a kind of White Negroni variation.
2,25 cl Apricot & Raspberry Eau de Vie Cuvée
3 cl Ciane Gentian Liqueur
3 cl Gölles Vermouth Semi-Dry
Garnish: Dried Orange Wheel;
Song: Dustin Tebbutt – White Lines;
An exotic Italian liqueur
Last but not least, a recipe with something besides gin. The Roman Holiday uses a mix of rum and two liqueurs for a tropical feeling. I use the https://augustine-bar.de/2018/01/28/dark-four-door/ Nardini Tagliatella liqueur way to seldomly. To change that, I came up with the drink. Unfortunately, I forgot by which cocktail I was inspired for the exact recipe…
1,5 cl Nardini Tagliatella Liqueur
1,5 cl Giffard Vanilla Liqueur
3 Dashes The Seventh Sense Tiki Bitters 4,5 cl Grapefruit Juice
4,5 cl Orange Juice
1,5 cl Lime Juice
0,75 cl Simple Syrup
Garnish: Dried Grapefruit Wedge;
Song: The National – Roman Holiday
