My Blue Supreme – Aluna Coconut

Well, if your favourite spirits importer / dealer asks you to enter one of their competitions you do not hesitate. So, I came up with a tropical drink using an ounce of Aluna Coconut rum. However, the special thing about it is its colour. – Disclaimer: No curacao was hurt during the production of this drink!

I already featured the Aluna Coconut Rum here on the blog. It is actually a nice coconut flavoured rum which is not too sweet and has a natural coconut flavour. Maybe it was the label’s colour, but for the challenge I wanted to use the flavoured rum in a blue cocktail.

Swimming Pool meets Blue Lagoon meets passionfruit

There are not a lot of cocktail ingredients I despise more than blue curacao. – Well maybe artificially coloured cocktail cherries… Yet, as mentioned above I wanted to make a blue drink. Luckily, my man Matthias over at Served by Soberon used some blue spirulina powder in some of his drinks. So, I just stole this idea and combined a few “tropical” / “trashy” drinks of the 80s and 90s for a tropical, yet not too serious cocktail.

The “My Blue Supreme” starts with flavours reminding you of a Pina Colada. I guess this is just my typical association with the flavour combination of coconuts and pineapples. However, the citrus juices and lemonade take the drink in a more refreshing direction. In the end, some exotic notes from the rum and the passionfruit liqueur linger on in the back. At the same time, it feels a bit weird to drink a blue cocktail. Nevertheless, the drink was quite delicious!
