Time to Wander – Orca Brau Wanderlust

When you buy a fan kit from your favourite brewery which includes a beer called ‘Wanderlust’, you definitely have to come up with a hiking inspired beer cocktail! So, this is what I did with the ‘Wanderlust’ American Pale Ale from Orca Brau.

Felix from Orca Brau brews the ‘Wanderlust’ Pale Ale with Pilsner and wheat malt as well as American ale yeast. Furthermore, he only adds American hops, namely Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe. In the end, the beer has an ABV of 5,4 %.

Hiking on wild trails

Obviously, I had to pair the American style ale with a American whiskey. So, I chose the Wilderness Trail Wheated Bourbon. Additionally, I added the Woodford Reserve Sassafras and Sorghum bitters, an Alpine Amaro and a ginger and honey syrup. Obviously, I topped everything up with the beer.

Time to Wander:

3 cl Wilderness Trail Wheated Bourbon
2,25 cl Cappelletti Amaro Trentino
2 Dashes Woodford Reserve Sassafras & Sorghum Bitters
3 cl Lemon Juice
2,25 cl Homemade Ginger & Honey Syrup
Top off with Orca Brau Wanderlust Pale Ale
Shake – strain – chilled Highball glass over ice – top off;
Garnish: Wally and Whiz Grapefruit Gummis;
Song: Gypsy & The Cat – Time to Wander;

The ‘Time to Wander’ starts with notes reminiscent of a Whiskey Sour. Yet, the herbal notes from the Amaro as well as the ginger and the beer take the drink in a slightly different direction. Especially, the Pale Ale makes the drink more refreshing. This way the beer cocktail is also suitable for the hotter days.
